My great grandfather's name was Renke Stoeltje born in 1787 in Germany. I have been told that Stoeltje is Dutch. Is this correct? Also, is Renke a full name or a shortened version of Reinhardt? Thank you. |
|
 |
Reactie van Henk
Stoeltje is rare, but exists in the Dutch provinces Noord-Holland and Friesland.
Renke may well be the full name, though originally it is probably a short form of Reinout (Reinhardt is German). |

Hi Henk, congratulations on all the work that you have put into the site, impressive. I had hoped to have found a van Kampen connection with my family here, but unfortunately not. My Great great great Grandfather was a John (presumably Jan) van Kampen who was a mariner who married in Sydney Australia in 1875. One of my cousins has just obtained a copy of the marriage certificate and find that his father was Antony Cornelius van Kampen & mother Ann Schalin (which seems Fininsh). Only states his birthplace as Holland, no city and must have been around 1844. How common was the van Kampen name around the Netherlands, or was it localised to certain regions? |

Hi Graeme,
Thanks for the compliments.
Unfortunately there are several unrelated Van Kampen families in The Netherlands, from different regions.
I could not find the name Schalin in The Netherlands. Schaling exists but is rare (mainly in Amsterdam). |

Can anyone tell me whether Pietja is a Dutch girl's name (or a name at all)? Maybe Pietia? My Dutch grandmother used to call me something that sounded like "PEACH-ah" when I was little. I am now expecting a baby and might like to use this name. |
|
 |
Reactie van Henk
Pietje is (or rather was) a Dutch name. It's the female form of Pieter (or Peter). The name was quite common until about a century ago, but is now considered archaic and rarely used anymore. |

Hi!!I have been trying to research my family tree. I can never find Verboam anywhere. I finally found a Jan Ver Boam and he was married to Lena Van Oosten. I found her parents on here but it only shows they have 1 child and Lena is not it. I found a Andries van Oosten who was born and died in Scheidam. I also wanted to see if maybe someone could find something about when my family came to America. I always see how they were born in the Netherlands but then they died in Michigan in America. Nothing in between. I am so interested in this stuff but I can not find anything at all. |

Great Site you have here Henk. I've been doing my family tree for about 8 years now. I started off in the archives in Alkmaar (whilst I was living in NL)with the help of a dutch friend and have been doing it via the internet here in NZ for 7 years. A'dam/Alkmaar archives and Genlias make it so easy to find the info you need. Even if you live on the other side of the planet. Helps if you can speak basic dutch though. Anyways, keep up the great work.

I love your website. What a wealth of general information you have amassed. I am searching for Schouwenaar's, but only after having my ancestors lead me on a wild goose chase. The Americanized version of the name is Schauner. Everyone has always thought we were German, however, my gggrandfather was born in Holland. We had always assumed he was born in Holland because his parents were searching for work or something. He actually is Dutch, not German. Keep that in mind when you search. Families don't always know. Look at the facts.
Again THANK YOU SO MUCH for the information you have provided. It is greatly appreciated. |

I have just started my search. My ancestors are Noordhoff, Kremer, Staal, Bodde van Bruggen, Werf, Vlietstra, and Koning. I think many of them are from either Noorhorn or Hoogkerk. I have only read one section of this site and am so excited about the information here. Thank you! |

Can someone give me the address for Sankt Pankatius Church in Anholt, Netherlands? How would you get there from Meppen, Germany? My RABELING and TELAAK ancestors were Baptized there in 1791-1813. I would like to visit there in August 2008. Thank you |

Hi Jo, The Sankt Pankratius church is in the German town Anholt, not in the Dutch village Anholt. You can find the address at http://kirchensite.de/index.php?myELEMENT=9735 . |
